We invite you to join us as we seek to serve God and God's people with excellence in Music and the Fine Arts.
I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. Psalm 108:2-4

It is with great joy that we announce to you, on behalf of our Staff Parish Relations Committee and their search committee, that Susan Wilson, currently the Organist Choir Director of Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church of Richmond Virginia, has agreed to become our new Director of Fine Arts. Susan's first Sunday with us will be July 14th as she needs to close out her time at Saint Matthew's and do all the logistical work of moving her family here to Atlanta.
Susan's family consists of her husband Tom, their daughter Bella (age 15), their daughter Annie (age 10), and their miniature schnauzer Spencer. They will be making many important decisions in the days to come, most importantly where to live and where the girls will enroll in school. Please keep them in your prayers and if you would like to send them letters of welcome, their current address is: Tom and Susan Wilson, 8953 Bellefonte Road, Richmond, VA 23229.
Susan Wilson grew up in Newberry, South Carolina. At a young age she began taking piano lessons and throughout high school she played in the band and served as an accompanist at a Lutheran ... Church. She entered Newberry College as a clarinet major but eventually took organ lessons “just for fun”. What started out as a fun adventure evolved into a happy and successful career as an organist. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Church Music from Newberry College. She went on to do her graduate studies at Scarritt Graduate School in Nashville, Tennessee. She studied organ with Janette Fishell and Wilma Jensen and choral conducting with Sandra Willetts. After receiving a Masters Degree in Church Music, with an emphasis in organ, she served churches in full time music ministry in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Kentucky. In 1999 Susan and her husband, Tom, adopted their daughter Bella Rose from China. They returned to China in 2002 to adopt Anne Mallott. After taking a nine-year motherhood sabbatical and living in La Jolla, California, Susan and her family found their way to Richmond, Virginia, where she joined the staff at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church as Organist/Choir Director in August 2009.
You will also want to know that Daniel Cherrix, who has been our interim organist since November, has accepted the position of interim organist at Saint James Episcopal Church in Marietta. We are so grateful to Daniel for his time with us and bid him godspeed. Our own indispensable Amy Holloway will continue to hold down the fort until Susan arrives so be sure to give her extra hugs as well in the meantime!
Yours as always,
Beth, The Staff Parish Relations Committee, and their search committee
