Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry of Saint Mark provides an atmosphere that is conducive for teenagers in the 6th through 12th grades to grow in their relationship with God and with other teens in our community of faith. Opportunities are provided for study, worship, fun, fellowship and outreach.

We meet (almost) every Sunday morning during the 11:15 worship service in the third floor Youth Room. We also have many monthly service opportunities and special events, such as lock-ins, retreats, bowling, etc.

Typical Sunday Schedule

Time Program
10:10 am Sunday School - Youth Room 302
11:15 am Morning Worship
12:30 pm Group lunch

What Going on for Saint Mark Youth

Opportunities to Worship and to Learn:

Church Wide Worship at 9:00 and 11:15 am. This year we are also actively recruiting youth to assist in worship as readers, ushers, acolytes, or communion servers. Please contact Christia Holloway.

Sunday School classes at 10:15. We have a lectionary based curriculum taught by excellent and dedicated teachers.

Confirmation Class. Classes will be held in the spring for all youth, grades six and above, who have not yet been confirmed. Confirmation is the process by which youth decide for themselves two things: Do I choose, for myself, to be a Christian? And do I choose to join Saint Mark United Methodist Church? For more information, contact Kim Sorrells, Minister to Children & Youth.

Opportunities to serve:

Breakfast Club (alongside several regular volunteers) on the first Saturday of each month (which entails coming to the church at 9am and finishing up at noon).

Summer Missions to Hinton Rural Life Center. Youth will participate in housing repairs and construction to shared God’s love and care with others.

Opportunities for Fellowship:

Monthly youth “family sponsored” fellowship activity. Families of the Youth will volunteer to plan one social gathering for the youth. Each family will sign up for a month and plan an activity once in that month.

Retreats and Trips. Spiritual and Fellowship oriented retreats will happen once in the spring and once in the fall. In addition to the spring and fall retreats a Ski Trip will take place in January. These will provide the youth with time to rest from their daily lives, enjoy each other’s company, and to engage their own spirituality.
